Family support session outline:

  • Session 1 - Laying the Foundation: Understanding and Preparing for a Child’s Grief

    • Establish a compassionate space for parents to share their family's story, assess children's understanding of loss based on developmental stage, explore faith beliefs (if applicable) and support systems, and receive personalized guidance, resources, and reassurance to navigate grief together.

  • Session 2 - Guiding the Conversation: Coaching, Scripts, and Support Tools

    • Introduce guided talking points to equip you for common childhood reactions and questions, grow your confidence through role playing and conversational coaching, and receive personalized book recommendations.

  • Session 3 - Navigating the Goodbye: Practical and Emotional Preparation

    • Develop actionable insight into your children’s perspectives, including medical timelines (if applicable), appropriateness of memorial attendance, personalized guidance on daily routines and supportive scripts for teachers, coaches, scout leaders, nannies, etc.

  • Session 4 - Healing & Remembering

    • Create a meaningful child-driven service or commemorative activity while reinforcing long-term grief support tactics, such as creating lasting rituals, finding moments of joy, and building emotional resilience for the journey ahead.

Services for Schools

Kristin is known as “Ms. K-B” or “Ms. Koala-Bear” by students as an MNPS School Counselor. She helped her school earn the Grief Sensitive School designation and enjoys spreading the word about this important initiative. New York Life’s Grief Sensitive Schools Initiative (GSSI) seeks to better equip teachers to care for grieving students.
