Meet Kristin
Originally from Florida, I’ve called Nashville home for nearly two decades. I live with my husband, two elementary-aged daughters, and a big fluffy dog. I enjoy reading, singing, relearning piano, and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. A few of my favorite places are Sevier Park, Radnor and Montgomery Bell State Parks.
Why do I do this work?
Years ago at bedtime, my oldest daughter asked me about my late father. That moment turned into weeks of nightly questions about my Dad’s life and death. Although I loved telling her stories about my Dad, I was nervous answering questions about his passing.
After a few of these repeated conversations, I started wondering:
Is she too young to hear this? Am I making her sad?
Did I do this all wrong and now she’s fixated on death?
This is feeling very Wednesday Addams, is this healthy?
I didn’t know what was normal or who to ask for guidance. I didn’t want to call the pediatrician, and none of the parenting blogs touched on grief. Fortunately, I was in graduate school and a few months later, completed a course in Personal Loss & Grief. I was relieved to learn my daughter’s questions were typical and normal for a preschooler; how would I have known otherwise?
I love sharing this knowledge and sense of relief.
It’s a good feeling knowing I can have these conversations with my children, and you can, too.
